Innovation Hub

March 18, 2025

To build on its vision of cutting-edge manufacturing, Guelph-based Linamar recently constructed the Linamar Innovation Hub. From conception through to design and build, the facility needed to accommodate the dynamic nature of the company’s business. Research, development, and contract-manufacturing require a facility that can withstand constant re-tooling and rearrangement of heavy equipment. This created the necessity for a particularly resilient concrete floor.

Whitby Health Centre
projects

Whitby Health Centre

March 18, 2025

For the construction of a new Health Clinic in Whitby, the contractor reached out to Form & Build to procure many of the items needed to complete all of the concrete work. Everything from Grief forming tubes to Krystaline Plug from Kryton to effectively patch tie holes were supplied according the project timeline. Originally, the contractor intended to cure the building footings using standard burlap for a wet cure. While a wet cure with burlap has its advantages, it requires daily watering to achieve an effective cure. This process is time consuming and may be forgotten for a day or two on a busy job site. This ultimately can lead to a substandard and weaker concrete slab.

Effort Trust
projects

Effort Trust

March 18, 2025

Situated in picturesque Gore Park in downtown Hamilton, Effort Trust’s new headquarters will be part of the area’s revitalization. With new condos, retail, and office space, the area around Gore Park will be a vibrant part of Hamilton. However, the General Contractor entrusted with construction of the new headquarters found that the site’s close proximity to Hamilton Harbour posed a challenge. Ground water and hydrostatic pressure were significant at the site and had the contractor exploring dependable foundational waterproofing solutions.

Seaton Water Treatment Pumping Station
projects

Seaton Water Treatment Pumping Station

March 18, 2025

As part of its Master Plan, the Municipality of Durham undertook efforts to build a new wastewater treatment and pumping station in Seaton. This station will accommodate future development and growth in the GTA’s largest municipality. Maple Reinders was awarded the Design/Build contract for this project and looked to Form & Build Supply to help provide a wide array of the products specified on this project.

Dundas Street Reconstruction
projects

Dundas Street Reconstruction

March 18, 2025

The City of Cambridge recently undertook a complete road reconstruction of its main street. Part of this reconstruction involved a pedestrian tunnel running underneath the road. Once excavated, the contractor needed to effectively waterproof this concrete tunnel. However, the irregular shape of the tunnel made traditional peel-and-stick waterproofing membranes unfeasible.

Piller's Brantford
projects

Piller's Brantford

March 18, 2025

Well-known Canadian deli meat and sausage maker Piller’s began a $19.1 million expansion in fall 2020. This investment will add 27,000 square feet of production capacity to the company’s Brantford plant. As with many projects undertaken during the COVID-19 pandemic, the contractors involved had to contend with product shortages and substantial price increases on an array of materials most notably steel. Concrete contractors feel the brunt of these increases given the volumes of reinforcing steel rebar they purchase.

Bridge # 7 Rehabilitation
projects

Bridge # 7 Rehabilitation

March 18, 2025

The rehabilitation of Bridge # 7 confronted many of the challenges common to county bridge repairs. These bridges ferry sizable traffic loads, generally over environmentally sensitive areas, and are subject to harsh Canadian weather conditions. To ensure the long-term structural integrity in the face of these elements, this project required a reliable way to inhibit the damaging process of corrosion to the bridge’s embedded rebar.

Beer Store Distribution Centre
projects

Beer Store Distribution Centre

March 18, 2025

To augment their capacity, the Beer Store undertook the building of a new distribution centre in Caledon, ON North West of Toronto. The 407,000 square foot LEED-certified facility will be capable of storing 2.8 million cases of beer at any one time. Construction of the single level warehouse was entrusted to Maple Reinders, a firm known for quality, reliability, and on-time delivery.

Garage Restoration – 50 Queen Street, Kitchener
projects

Garage Restoration – 50 Queen Street, Kitchener

March 18, 2025

Sections of the parking garage at 50 Queen Street, Kitchener were leaking water, necessitating remediation. The split-slab waterproofing membrane installed at the time of construction had degraded in some spots. The contractor removed the asphalt top-layer and needed a waterproofing membrane to apply to the exposed concrete deck beneath. The project required the removed top-layer be replaced with concrete, so the membrane needed to be tough and durable. The membrane was also required to not damage or degrade asphaltic rubbers because the rest of the parking surface was asphalt.

Galt Wastewater Treatment Plant
projects

Galt Wastewater Treatment Plant

March 18, 2025

Municipal Wastewater Treatment plants serve a vital role in our communities. A marvel of engineering, these plants direct sewage through a collection of concrete containment tanks where it undergoes a variety of physical, chemical, and biological processes to ensure that the water can be safely released back into the watershed. The plant in Galt alone processes 56.8 million litres of sewage per day. So to ensure the reliable upgrade of this facility, the municipality selected Maple Reinders to oversee construction. Contamination risk of the surrounding ecosystems pose the biggest risk in a project like this. That is why Maple Reinders turned to Form & Build to supply a wide variety of high-value product solutions. Over the years, Form & Build has demonstrated to Maple Reinders that the lines we carry consist of the most reliable, industry-leading manufacturers. This product offering, together with the level of customer service necessary to meet complex construction schedules, made Form & Build a valuable partner to ensure this project’s completion.

Copper Road Salt Dome
projects

Copper Road Salt Dome

March 18, 2025

The Region of Peel had plans to build a new Salt Dome to support their winter maintenance operations. Salt Domes are subjected to all kinds of heavy traffic and wear-and-tear. From heavy transport delivery trucks to front end loaders scraping the floor slab, these facilities need to withstand a lot. To combat these challenges, the original specification called for a traditional surface-applied hardener for the concrete floor slab and dome walls. The City was concerned whether this hardener would actually be able to provide the long-term durability needed for the life-cycle of the facility.

The Gaslight Condos
projects

The Gaslight Condos

March 18, 2025

Development of the new Gaslight District on the old Southworks grounds in Galt (Cambridge) promises to create a thriving community that will feature condos, retail shops, commercial space, and entertainment venues. The site is defined by its historical structures that have housed a variety of industrial and commercial activities throughout their existence. Due to the site’s long history, the developer faced problems typical in developing brownfield – or potentially contaminated – land. Sites of this nature often have indeterminate levels of contaminants in the soil; a by-product of decades of industrial or commercial use. If not dealt with properly, these contaminants can seep through a building’s concrete ground slab and create a health hazard for building occupants. The developer and contractor therefore had to find a way to prevent any potential vapour transmission of harmful chemicals into their buildings above.
